Today is a birthday work holiday, so my goal is to donate gently used and new things for the Giving Bank (our church's ministry to the local community).
For the past several months, I've collected shoes, clothes, small kitchen appliances, and books from various sources. The items are dispersed every Monday morning to families who also receive 2 grocery bags of staple items (rice, beans, bread, milk) and produce, donated by our local Trader Joe's, Pavilions, Vons, and Ralphs.
It's heartening to see volunteers of all ages participate in this effort, week in and out. and it keeps me mindful of how good we have it compared to those who have so little.
