I love TED and this was especially cool. 3 young scientists talk about:
1) how to marinate chicken to minimize carcinogens
2) a protein that can block cancer cell growth
3) making your home/work/school less VOC active
To sum up #1, marinate chicken in lemon juice, saltwater, or brown sugar and don't overcook the chicken. the longer it cooks, the higher the rate of carcinogen growth.
#2 is a work in progress, as this student is gathering more scientific/medical support for funding - BUT - important, nevertheless. summary: she discovered a protein that re-activated the same medication in a patient with ovarian cancer and whose chemotherapeutic medication became resistant after her cancer returned. had to listen a few times to this one.
#3 is about how we can make a proactive difference in our indoor air quality by: not burning incense and candles, living in a carpet-free home (and working, for that matter), and changing filters in your a/c and heating units.
I've only touched the tip of the iceberg in this summary, so click on the link and listen to some amazing young talent and make some small changes.
